Mr. Charles Jimmy Ownbey, age 72, of the Dawnville community in Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Palm Coast, Florida, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was a Christian and attended Temple Baptist Church. Charles was a tufting machine mechanic at Signature Hospitality Carpets. Charles was born May 25, 1941 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late John Bulon and Sarah Crump Ownbey. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of forty seven years and the mother of his children, Sue Green Ownbey, brothers, Johnny, Sylvan and Gerald Ownbey, sisters, Louise Byers Faw, Betty Wofford and Merle Blankenship.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Centers Ownbey of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Darel and Crystale Ownbey of Calhoun, GA, Bryan and Kim Ownbey of Rocky Face, GA; daughters and son-in-law Darlene and Steven Chance, Cindy Burton all of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Natasha and Justin Clements of Calhoun, GA, Jantzen and Sarah Chance of Dalton, GA, Tyler and Jillian Ownbey of Chattanooga, TN, Blake Ownbey of Rocky Face, GA, Austin Burton of Dalton, GA; great-grandson, Weston Clements of Calhoun, GA; Rebecca's children and their families, Chris Stanley and Shawna Miller both of Dalton, GA, and Brittany Shelton of Center, AL; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arvil and Juanita Centers of Dalton, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Charles Dill of Dalton, GA; sister-in-law, Evelyn Ownbey; brother-in-law, Gene Wofford both of Dalton, GA; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Gravesides services will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Bret Yeager officiating. Pallbearers will be, Justin Clements, Jantzen Chance, Tyler Ownbey, Blake Ownbey, Austin Burton and Donnie Blankenship. Visitation for family and close friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Ponders Melrose Chapel. A memorial service will be held in the near future with the date and time to be announced later.
