Mrs. Brownie G. Mitchell, age 95, of Dalton, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024, at the local hospital.
Born on July 3, 1929, in Morgan County, Alabama. Brownie was the cherished daughter of the late Samuel R. and Mary Hazelwood Seay, Sr. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of sixty-six years, Henry "Achie" Mitchell, Jr., her brothers Gordon Seay and Samuel Seay, Jr., her sister-in-law Virginia Nations, and her brother-in-law Hershel "Grady" Mullinax. She was also predeceased by her beloved nieces and nephew, Henrietta Cummings, Tony Mullinax, and Jenny Mullinax.
Brownie was a pillar of strength and compassion, embodying a life of unwavering love for her family and a deep commitment to her community. As a dedicated homemaker, she devoted herself to raising her sons and later partnered with her sister to run a resale furniture store, where her warmth and generosity touched the lives of many. Her family describes her as a remarkable woman whose love was as boundless as her compassion. She lived her life with a heart that put others first, always placing her family's needs above her own.
A lifelong member of McFarland Hill Baptist Church, where she was honored to be the oldest member, Brownie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her dedication to her church was evident in her unwavering support and active participation, reflecting her profound belief in service and community. She attended Valley Point High School.
She is lovingly survived by her sons, Terry (Sandra) Mitchell, Lexie Mitchell, and Teresa McCullough; her granddaughters, Tera (Bob) Gee and Nikki (Larry Haddaway); her great-grandchildren, Robbie and Riley Gee, Austin and Caleb Carter, and Alexis Haddaway; her great-great-grandchildren, Dimitri and Cyrus Gee and Teagan Carter; her sisters, Virgie Mullinax and Sara Crook; and her special niece, Regina (Bill) Worley, along with Cassie (Randy) Graeff. She is also survived by her nephew, Michael Seay; great-niece, Tasha (Colter) Bradford; great-nephews, Brice (Breanna) Johnston and Nigel Mullinax; and extended family members Timmy Stanley, Kevin, and Zane Mulkey, who were like grandchildren to her.
A celebration of Mrs. Brownie G. Mitchell's life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at McFarland Hill Baptist Church, located at 307 Brickyard Rd., Dalton, GA 30721. Reverend Michael Gazaway will officiate the service. Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Swamp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Brice Johnston, Nigel Mullinax, Larry Haddaway, Colter Bradford, Randy Graeff, and Tom Sosebee will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at McFarland Hill Baptist Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, until the service hour.
Her legacy of love, compassion, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
