Mr. Bobby Gene Davenport, age 82 of Chattanooga, Tennessee, departed this life Monday October 23, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He passed on the exact day 60 years after meeting his beautiful wife, Jan. He was born March 28, 1941 in Oakman, Georgia, a son of the late Herbert Reed and Willie Amzela Holbert Davenport. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Davenport, Curtis Davenport, James Davenport, sister Lois Davenport Blood Maize, sister-in-law, Ruth Davenport. He was a 1959 graduate of Murray County High School and he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Parkview Church in Palm Coast, Florida. Bobby was most known as the founder of Funway USA in Bryman's Plaza during the 1970s through early 2000s. He gave countless youth and young adults a place for iconic fun over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janice "Jan" Elkins Davenport of the residence; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Tom Whitehouse of Fredericksburg, VA, Pamela and Carey Nease of Chattanooga, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Sonia Davenport of Dalton, GA, Roy and Mary Davenport of Florida, Dolly Davenport of Chatsworth, GA; special sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bentley of Pelham, GA, Carol Crews of Macclenny, FL; grandchildren, Zachary and Emily Terry, Alexis and Jake Bustamante, Alison and Evan Morogiello, Caroline and Joe Battaglia, Jacob Whithouse, Joseph Nease, Justin and Hannah Nease, Matthew Nease, Adi Nease, great grandchildren, Olivia Terry, Scarlett Terry, Dante Battaglia, Dawson Nease; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date most likely to include a golf tournament with participants paying for gimme's.
