Mr. Billy Joe Phillips, age 77, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born April 30, 1940 in Murphy, North Carolina, a son of the late Bill and Delcie Farmer Phillips. He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Phillips on July 3, 2016, his brother, Harold Phillips and a sister, Helen Clayton.

Bill was retired from Shaw Industries where he worked for over thirty-three years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Keener Phillips of the residence and would have celebrated their fifty-third wedding anniversary on July 12, 2017; son, Mike Phillips of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Rendy Ellis of Calhoun, GA, Morgan and Joseph Langford of Dalton, GA, Michael Shane Phillips of Resaca, GA; great-grandson, Hayden Cade Ellis of Calhoun, GA; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Carlene Shane and Johnny Welch of Resaca, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susie and Lamar Newton, Rosemary and Jerry Queen all of Chatsworth, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Billy Joe Phillips will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Brother George Cross officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved son at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with his close friends and family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday until the service hour.
