Mrs. Bennie Emma Roberson Johnson, age 97 of Calhoun, GA, departed this life October 26, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Bennie was born June 17, 1916 in Murphy, NC, daughter of the late Wesley and Georgia Carroll Roberson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Kirkland, brothers, Edgar, Fred, Homer, and Frank Roberson as well as a sister Edith Wilkins. Bennie was also predeceased by daughters Marcella Truelove and Rebecca Kirkland.
Bennie loved to knit, go fishing and shopping at flea markets.
Bennie is survived by daughters and son in law; Virginia and J.D. Graves of Springfield, OR, Mary Matta of Calhoun, GA and Judy Quinn of Blue Ridge, GA. sons; Larry Kirkland of Calhoun, GA. and Mark Kirkland of Jacksonville, FL, a brother Clinton Roberson of Andrews, NC. Bennie had nineteen grandchildren many great grandchildren as well as great-great grandchildren.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bennie Emma Johnson will be held Tuesday October 29, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Pace officiating. Music will be provided by Jesse and Lena Hill. Interment will follow in the Gordon Memorial Gardens with James Bryant, Ricky Lloyd, Steven Kepart, Christopher Quinn, Wesley Vercrose and Gary Adams serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday October 29, 2013 at the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
