Mrs. Barbara A. Shields

July 13, 1941 – June 24, 2025

Ms. Barbara Ann Shields, age 83, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2025, at Murray Woods in Chatsworth, Georgia.

Born on July 13, 1941, in Dalton, Barbara was a proud 1959 graduate of Valley Point High School. She dedicated many years to public service as an officer with the Dalton Police Department. After retiring, she continued to contribute to her community through her work at Agape Book Store and Big John's Treat Shop.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wallace H. Shields; her son, Keith Goforth; her father and stepmother, Robert Frank and Sue Myers Carney; Jean Pirtle and George B. Tyner; and her brothers-in-law, Ronnie Boyd and Ed Dunn.

She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Linda Boyd and Jane Dunn of Dalton, GA, and Debbie Rogers of Calhoun, GA; her granddaughter, Natasha Sheree and Anthony Jackson of Eton, GA; great-grandchildren, Dayton Quarles and Summer Webb; five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel, Dalton, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia, 1210 Veterans Dr., Dalton, GA, 30721, in Barbara's honor.
