Mrs. Barbara "Bobbie Jean" McAmis Hemrich, age 77, of Pooler, Georgia and formerly of Dalton, Georgia, passed away, Tuesday November 23, 2021 at the Legacy at Savannah Quarters. She was born May 24, 1944 in East Ridge, TN a daughter of the late James and Ardella Pierce Brogdon. She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, Joe McAmis and also Tom Hemrich, brothers, Paul Brogdon, James Jr. "Jimmy Brogdon, Johnny and Barbara Brogdon, David Brogdon, sisters, Susie Cline, Linda Soi, son-in-law and hero, Michael "Kelly" Fields, grandchildren, Ben Adamson, Molly Greene.
Bobbie Jean and her husband Joe McAmis owned and operated "BJ's Restaurant" in Dalton, GA during the mid-1970s through the late1980s. It was a very popular restaurant in Dalton frequented by many loyal customers consisting of working folks and also the business crowd as well. It was the home of "sudden service" and Bobbie Jean would greet each and every one of them with a smile and make them feel right at home. She and Joe were a real team. They had a kind of arrangement. Bobbie would do all the work and Joe would count the money. Bobbie Jean was well known for the wonderful meals she would prepare and also the fantastic desserts she would so expertly make. She loved entering her cakes and pies into the contest at the local North GA Fair and she won countless blue ribbons that she was so very proud of.
She loved her two daughter, Barbara and Betty, all her grandchildren and great grandchildren endlessly. Her affection and generosity knew no bounds and she will be sorely, sorely missed.
Survivors include sisters, Martha Kittrell (L.J.) and Della Ledford; daughters, Barbara Adamson (John), Betty Fields; stepson, Stevie Hemrich (Debbie); grandchildren, Zack Adamson (Anna), Shelley Adamson Downs (Brad), Jay Adamson, Madison James (Mike). Ashley Chitwood (Kevin); grandson-in-law, Andrew Greene; step grandson, Dereck Hemrich; great grandchildren, Haddy Adamson, Liam Adamson, Benjamin Canyon Adamson, Judson Downs; sister-in-law, Carolyn Brogdon; brothers-in-law, Guy Soi and Mike Cline; several nieces and nephews.
Service will be held Saturday November 27, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. She will be laid to rest in the Tunnel Hill Cemetery.
