Miss Barbara Jo Gunter , age 56, of Chatsworth, Georgia, departed this life Thursday morning, July 21, 2022 at Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was born February 4, 1966 in Oneida, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Bill and Wanda Newport Gunter. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ricky Gunter, grandparents, Henry and Ida Gunter, Johnny and Marie Newport and many other family members.

She graduated from Scott County High School, class of 1984. She was a 4 year starter for the Lady Highlanders basketball varsity team. A member of the Scott County High School softball, track and band. Barb worked for Walmart for 20 plus years. She loved playing billiards, basketball, and watching Ohio State football. She collected many Jerseys from every state over the years. Anyone traveling had to bring a jersey from the State they traveled to. Barb would do anything or go anywhere to help anybody. She loved and gave love unconditionally. She has fought a courageous battle with her heart condition and so much more for many years.

She is survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Joyce Spurling of Florida; Kaye and Carson Head of Chatsworth, GA; brothers and sister-in-law, Lonnie and Greta Gunter of Allardt, TN, Wade Gunter of Scott County, TN, Logan Gunter of Lafollette, TN; aunts, Wilma Collins AKA Warden of Tunnel Hill, GA, Wanda Newport of Wartburg, TN; uncle, David and Debi Newport of Willington, OH; many more aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; very special friends Glen Goins and Rebecca Scott.

Service to celebrate the life of Miss Barbara Jo Gunter will be held Sunday July 24, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Billy Willis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
