Mrs. Barbara Stewart Chastain, 71, of Gordon County, and formerly of Adairsville, Georgia, departed this life Monday afternoon, January 27, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Chastain was born in Habersham County on August 19, 1948.  She was a daughter of the late William Henry Stewart and Ozella Jones Stewart.  Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Arlin Chastain; and siblings, William Eugene "Gene" Stewart, Harold Stewart, Darold Stewart, Cathy Huffman, and Terry Stewart.

Mrs. Chastain was a 1966 graduate of Cherokee High School and continued her education at Kennesaw State University graduating with a Master's Degree in Special Education.  She was employed by the Bartow County School system where she primarily taught 7 ^th grade at the former Adairsville Middle-High School retiring in 2005.  Mrs. Chastain also worked at the local Calhoun Walmart Supercenter for over 10 years where she filled various roles, including working as a Door Greeter and a Cashier.  She left Walmart in 2010.  She was a member of Grace Temple Fellowship Church in Adairsville, Georgia.

Mrs. Chastain is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, LaRonda and William Smith of Ranger; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Stephanie Chastain of Cartersville, Georgia; her grandchildren, Megan Breeden, Hannah Chastain, Taylor Howard, Stephen Smith, and Timothy Smith; brothers, Larry Stewart of Dallas, Georgia, Kenny Stewart of Blue Ridge, Dale Stewart of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Charles Stewart of Ball Ground; special family friends, Tracy Mayberry, Janie Cantrell, and Shaunalynn Schonder; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Barbara Stewart Chastain will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Ponders Calhoun Chapel.  Reverend Randy Forsyth will officiate.  She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Eastview Cemetery in Adairsville.  Ed Driscoll, Mark Collins, Dewayne Thomas, Bryan Johnson, Tony Stegall, and Randall Schonder will all serve as pallbearers.

The Chastain family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Ponders Calhoun Chapel.
