Mr. Arvin Wiley " Jerry " Manning, age 80, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life, Sunday February 13, 2022 at the local hospital. Jerry was born January 18, 1942 in Villanow, GA, the son of the late Mitchell Lucius Manning and Eula Mae Goodson Manning. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Viola Smith and brother, Clarence Manning. Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Lafayette High School. After graduating he enlisted into the Army from 1960 until 1963. Returning home from the Army, Jerry went to work for General Telephone and worked there for 32 years. Jerry was a trustee at South Dalton Baptist Church and member for over 50 years. He was also involved in the American Legion Post #112 and Gideons International.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Gloria "Jean" Underwood Manning, they would have celebrated their 14 th wedding anniversary, April 2, 2022; sons, Michael Todd Manning and Lynn of Savannah, GA; step-son, John Bailey of Resaca, GA, brothers, Charlie Manning of Villanow, GA, Bruce and Jennifer Manning of Nicholasville, KY; sister, Clarissa Casteel of Calhoun, TN; grandchildren, Brandon Manning, Jessica and Clay Lee, Caitlin Manning and Almir, Josh Manning and Ashley , Braden Bailey and Haley and great grandson Braxton Bailey. Service to celebrate the life of Jerry Manning will be held, February 18, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. from South Dalton Baptist Church with Rev Danny Edwards, Rev Jerry Atkins and Rev Robby Dunn officiating. Interment will follow the service at West Hill Cemetery with American Legion Post #112 providing military honors. Honored to be pallbearers are, Clint Smith, Jason Casteel, Keith Young, Lebron Manning, Luke Manning, and Tyler Riden, Jimmy Fletcher, and Rogelio Cortez. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Gideons International Dalton Camp, The retirees of the General Telephone Co., and the American Legion Post 112.
The family will receive friends, February 18, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at 3:00 p.m. from South Dalton Baptist Church.
