Mr. Arvil Lee Newton age 70, of Dawnville, Georgia, departed this life Sunday morning, March 8, 2020 at the Pruitt Health Care in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Mr. Newton was born in Gordon County on May 29, 1949. He was a son of the late Ford Hardin Newton and Aslee Elaine Parker. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his step-father, Kenneth Mathis; his aunt, Selvia Swilling; two uncles, Felton Parker and James Parker.
He was an avid Nascar fan and loved to watch his game shows on television. As an avid outdoorsman he loved to fish and loved to hunt. He also enjoyed playing a round of golf every now and then.
Mr. Newton is survived by his loving wife, Doris Crisp Newton to whom he was married on June 29, 1977; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Randy Johnson of Adairsville, Georgia; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Terrie Newton of Dawnville, Billy Joe and Annie Rogers of Pisgah, Alabama; grandchildren, Thomas and Ashton Johnson, Tia and Brett Kelly, Tamera Johnson, Kacie and Ronnie Dyer, Mikaela and Johnny Burns, Angie Long, Dana Mills, Donnie Mills, Crayton Rogers, Annie Mae Rogers, and James Rogers; great-grandchildren, Addalyn and Evelyn Johnson, Addyson & Kira Kelley, Mason Long, Waylon Mills, and Nolan Mills; sister, Cathy Newton; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Sharon Newton all of Dalton; aunts and uncles, Evelyn and Paul Porter, Wanda and Steve Champion, Versell and Wilbur Rice, Raymond and Diane Parker, Ruby and Quinn Smith, Vernice Andrews, and Estelle Ponders; special friends, Karen, Tricia, and Sheryl; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Arvil Newton will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. in Ponders Melrose Chapel. Reverend Thomas Johnson will officiate. Mr. Newton will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens. Thomas Johnson, Randy Johnson, James Rogers, Crayton Rogers, Brett Kelley, Steve Champion, and Paul Porter will all be honored to serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Newton's family will receive friends on Monday, March 9, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Ponders Melrose Chapel.
