Mr.Arthur C. Vogel, 81, of Fairmount, GA, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his home and surrounded by his family.

Mr. Vogel was a devoted volunteer in the Fairmount community and a long-time member of the Salacoa Valley Kiwansis club, reading to pre-K classes at Fairmount Elementary School and organizing local blood drives for the American Red Cross. He was an officer in the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, and through that organization established the Stacy Holsomback Memorial Scholarship at Southern Polytechnic State University. He was a 1955 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and had a long career as a lubrication engineer with United States Steel and Mobil Oil Corporation. He served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and later in the Army Reserves. He was a member of Pine Log United Methodist Church.

Mr. Vogel is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Woodgate Vogel; his son, David Vogel (Flora) of Warner Robins, GA ; his daughters: Leslie Banister (Billy) of Hendersonville, TN, Laura Stephens of Fairmount, GA, Lisa McKinney (Chad) of Fairmount, GA, and Leigh Rayner (Russell) of Largo, FL; his 7 grandchildren: Ronald Vogel (Annabel) of Phoenix, AZ, Eric Banister (Kerri) of Atlanta, GA, Melody Vogel (Jon Gordon) of Phoenix, AZ , Kelli Sekulow (Adam) of Lilburn, GA, Phoebe Stephens of Marietta, GA, Samantha Rayner of Largo, FL and Pippa McKinney of Fairmount, GA; his sisters, Betty Craig (Bud) of Yeagartown, PA and Barbara Schmidtetter (Skip) of Pittsburgh, PA; his aunts, Ada and Norma Bell of Pittsburgh, PA, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur John and Edith Evelyn Vogel of Pittsburgh, PA and his sister, Ruth Krelko of Alpharetta, GA.

Memorial service will be held Monday March 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from the Pine Log United Methodist Church with Pastor Geoffrey Grubbs officiating, interment will follow in the Pine Log United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ponders Fairmount Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.
