Mrs. Alva Jean McClure, age 77, of Chatsworth, Georgia, departed this life Sunday morning, July 2, 2017 at the local hospital. Jean was born November 19, 1939 in Cisco, Georgia. Jean's father, Lelan Shields was killed in World War II, when she was a small child. She was a 1957 graduate of Murray County, High School and worked many years at Beaulieu of America. Jean married her high school sweetheart, Jack Anthony "Tony" McClure on her birthday, November 19, 1959 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Della Mae Keener Gallman and Joe Gallman, also a sister, Bonnie Mae Patterson. Jean loved working in her garden, canning and animals.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Angelia McClure of Cohutta, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and David Tankersley of Chatsworth, GA; grandsons, Joshua Ellis of Chatsworth, GA, and Nicholas McClure of Cohutta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, John L. and Janice Gallman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Roberta and James Turner and Emerlene and Jerry Patterson all of Chatsworth, GA; special niece, Wanda Alloway of Cisco, GA; several other nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Alva Jean McClure will be held Thursday morning, July 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Minister Daryl Hill officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with friends and family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning until the service hour.
