Mrs. Alice A. Bates, age 77, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the local hospital. Alice was born April 18, 1936 in Kodiak, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her father, Herman Piecoon, sister, Jane Jackson.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bates of the residence; nephews, Christopher Oliver, Kevin Oliver, Scotty Oliver all of Dalton, GA; niece, Nelda Jackson of Canada.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Alice A. Bates will be held Friday, September 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Ronald Guffey officiating. She will be laid to rest Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
