Obituary

Ms. Alberta Ruth Huntington Gravitt, age 80, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Monday evening, October 21, 2024 at her home; surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bell, California. August 25, 1944. A daughter of the late Robert Lavaughn and Ruth Graham Huntington. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Carl Huntington and sister Judith Marie Hooge.

She is survived by her daughter Tracey and son-in-law Michael McCollum of Dalton, Ga., son Todd Wolanin of Dalton, Ga, son T.J. and daughter-in-law Stephanie Wolanin of Virginia Beach, Va., grandchildren: Travis Wolanin, Brittany and Josh Antle, Kayla Wolanin, Kirstin and Alex Wolanin-McMath, Kourtney and Blake Murphy, Caileia Wolanin, Ahrianna Wolanin, and Ellah Wolanin, great grandchildren: Kaylee, Britlyn, Cayanna, Athena, KatieRae, Leilanie, Karoline, Marlee, and Rilyn.
….and her famous dill dip recipe.

She was a loving Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was a Southern California girl that moved to the sweet Georgia peach state 41 years ago. You could always find her watching the Hallmark channel or the news in her older age but in her younger days you could always find her camping with her family, bowling with her grandkids, making it to grandparents day at school, and always carrying around Ditto in her purse to shop at Walmart. If she wasn't doing that she was trying to feel youthful keeping up with all her grandkids and great grandkids.
She may no longer be with us but the memories we all got to create with her, will live with us forever. From times like all the grandkids sleeping over and threatening to whoop us with the paddle to having Taco Sundays with her kids or from her home busting at the seams for Thanksgiving and everyone eating off fold out tables to baking Christmas cookies and decorating them every year. Her life never slowed down as she went on weekly trips to the grocery store as well as cruises with her daughter (Tracey) and son in law (Michael) and got to go out to Vegas with her best friend Susie to gamble. She was able to watch her youngest son (TJ) retire from the military and got to enjoy her final years living with her son (Todd) who would surprise her with her favorite snacks from the store, make her coffee, or butt heads on who smoked the last cigarette on the porch. She always made sure to call each and every one of us to wish us a "Happy Birthday!", even if she was a day late. She would never say this but her favorite title was being a Great Grandmother to her 9 girls. She was always teaching them songs, coloring with them, reading them stories, and has never mentioned the word "paddle" to them.
Maw was one of the sweetest, sassiest people we know. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
Have a blessed day 🍀
