IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Agnes Lucy
Blankenship Sutton
December 25, 1938 – December 18, 2020
Lucy Agnes Blankenship Sutton, AKA, Mom, Granny, Granny Poo, Ag, Aggie, Agnes.
Mom was given the gift of life on Christmas Day, 1938. On December 18 th , 2020, just 7 days shy of her 82 nd birthday, she was given the gift of eternal healing from all that Alzheimer's took from her.
Everyone who knew her agreed that she was one of a kind. Feisty and full of sass, she talked tough, but was the kindest, sweetest and most loving person you could know. Generous to a fault, she would give you anything she had, even her last dollar, if she thought you were in need.
Mom firmly believed in living life to the fullest, and having fun doing it. Her philosophy was that of Hunter S. Thompson, who said, "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Woohoo, what a ride'!"
I think it is safe to say, she did just that.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Clifford Sutton, Sr., father Mack McKinley Blankenship, mother and stepfather, Irene Mullinax Blankenship and Virgil Bright; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Merle Blankenship, Jim and Wylene Blankenship; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Jimmy Rutland, Betty Jo and Leamon Cagle.
She is survived by her son Harley C Sutton, Jr., daughter and son-in-law Kay and Gene Henderson; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Justin and Jada Barton, Analeigh, Meredith, and Emalynn; Katie and Russ Short, Sutton, Landry, and Channing; nieces, nephews and friends.
Mom's world was her family and our world has tilted on its axis with her passing. As we struggle to accept the pain of losing her little by little these past few years, we also rejoice as she rediscovered her memories and reunited with loved ones who had gone before her. Her passing leaves a void that will never be filled, and she will be sorely missed until we meet again.
Service to celebrate the life of Agnes Blankenship Sutton, will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Jay Tenney officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in hopes of finding a cure for the terrible disease that took so much from them. The family also request that you share your fondest memories, or funny stories, so that in death her great grandchildren can get to know the granny they were unable to know in life.
Due to the National health crisis and the Covid-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
