Mr. Freddie Edward Smith, Sr. (Dalton)

January 8, 2010 10-009 Mr. Freddie Edward Big Freddie Smith, Sr., age 62, of Dalton, Georgia, lost his courageous battle with cancer, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 28, 1947 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late Oscar and Panzie Sanford Smith. He is survived by his son, Freddie Smith, Jr. and his fiancée, Hannah Brooker; grandchildren, Trevor Dennison, Lindsey Coker and Devon Smith; sisters, Mae Painter, Joan Thomas and Freida Amos; brothers, Gerald Smith and Preston Smith; several nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Freddie Edward Smith, Sr. will be held Monday, January 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Gribble officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Dogwood Valley Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, with Jeff Amos, Jeremy Painter, Steve Painter, Jacob Painter, David Cantrell and Jerry Painter serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 6:00 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Freddie E. Smith, Sr., memorial fund, c/o of Freddie Smith, Jr., 600 College Dr., Apt. H-1, Dalton, GA, 30720.
